5th Phoenix Officer Shot in 1 Week; Gunman Wounds Cop During Traffic Stop

For the fifth time in six days, a Phoenix police officer was gunned down Thursday,
shot three times during a traffic stop. Officer Matt Morgan is expected to
survive the shooting which came less than two hours before police gathered for a
memorial visitation for Officer Jason Wolfe, who was killed with Officer Eric White

A HERO IS SOMEONE WHO RISKS HIS LIFE FOR THE SAFETY AND/OR WELFARE
OF SOMEONE ELSE WHOSE LIFE IS IN DANGER. =================================================================
WHEREVER THE BATTLEFIELD... AT HOME OR ON FOREIGN FIELDS... HEROS
ARE DOING MARVELOUS THINGS DAILY... MOMENT BY MOMENT... IN PEACE
KEEPING ONLY THE SPECTACULAR EVENTS GET HEADLINES AND ATTENTION, BUT THEY ARE ALL HEROS JUST FOR BEING THERE WHERE THEY ARE... AND
BEING READY, WILLING AND ABLE TO CONDUCT WHATEVER OPERATION IS
NECESSARY FOR THE WELL BEING OF THEIR IMMEDIATE WORLD... AND
ULTIMATELY FOR THE WELL BEING OF THE WHOLE WORLD IN GENERAL. =================================================================
Often heros throw caution to the winds and charge in... knowing that their action can
and probably will bring injury or death... but they will not hold back.
Something inside
is urging... pushing... there is a demand for immediate action if others are to survive...
and they rush in. Too often the results of their rushing in means they are then carried
out... DEAD OR WOUNDED!

This is the description of the situation in Florida recently... in Pheonix early this week and in the above incident in Iraq.

When we look back and examine all such incidents we often find that the Peace
Keeper could have waited... and survived. We often find that time would have almost
certainly guaranteed their survival... but the cool of practical thinking has seldom been
the attribute uppermost in the minds of those who become heros.

They see a need... maybe even a need that you and I do not or did not see... and some
thing within them impells action where maybe we would not act. After the action is
over... when the smoke clears... when the pressure is off... when the danger is no
longer present... when peace returns to the scene... WE EVALUATE... WE FIND THAT
A DIFFERENT ACTION WOULD HAVE OBTAINED A SAFER RESULT WITH MORE, IF
NOT ALL PARTICIPANTS SURVIVING.

What is it within these people that impells them into danger and death?
Some of us
already know. Some of us will never know.

Foolhearty... stupid... crazy... these and numerous other terms I have heard applied to
these occurances are very applicable in the light of after action evaluation... BUT
THESE TERMS DID NOT ENTER INTO THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE ONES WHO
TOOK THE ACTIONS THEY FELT NECESSARY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THOSE FOR
WHOM THEY ARE COMMITTED TO KEEPING THE PEACE!!! THEY JUST NEVER
THOUGHT OF THESE TERMS NOR THE POSSIBILITY OF DEATH... THEY WERE
IMPELLED TO TAKE THE ACTION... "DAMN THE TORPEDOES... FULL SPEED AHEAD!"

I wish that no one ever had to be put into a place where they could be injured or killed. I would be willing to bet that the heros... living and dead... wished the same thing. If
it were not for this wreckless abandon in the hearts of those who are committed to
peace and safety there would be no United States of America!... There would have
been no colonies preceding our establishment... THERE WOULD BE NO WORLD AS WE KNOW IT TODAY.

We evaluate and we decide that they did not have to die. We evaluate and decide that
a different course of action would have been better or given more satisfactory results.

TRAINING... TRAINING... TRAINING... AND I DO MEAN THE VERY BEST OF TRAINING
POSSIBLE... IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEM AVAILABLE TO US TO GIVE US THE
VERY BEST SURVIVAL RATE... AND THE VERY BEST SUCCESS RATE... BUT SOME
PEACE KEEPERS WILL ALWAYS BE TAKING SOME ACTION THAT THE REST OF
US, WHO WERE NOT INVOLVED AT THE TIME, WILL NOT EVER UNDERSTAND. AHHHHH, BUT SOME WILL FOR THEY HAVE BEEN THERE... THEY WILL
IDENTIFY BECAUSE THEIR EXPERIENCE WILL HAVE GIVEN THEM AN UNDER- STANDING MOST OTHERS WILL NOT HAVE... THEY KNOW!

I am a war and history student. I have always been interested in reading the
accounts of those who have made a difference for good in our world... and in the
vast quantities of information available I have always experienced an
astonish-
ment... an awe... as my imagination has pictured for me to see the actions depicted in the historical accounts. In addition to that I now have a long career of personal
experience... and the question often comes from others... "Why did you do that?" or "Why do you do that?"... and my answers to those asking the questions are seldom satisfactory... they just do not comprehend... unless it is another Peace Keeper. Then although they may think you crazy... if they have ever been there, they understand.

In the homeland we are celebrating the last, long, holiday weekend of Summer.
The young are trying to cram a lot into it and often get into conflict with other people or
law because of it. I viewed too much of that last night and will see even more tonight and tomorrow night.

EVERY PEACE KEEPER IS A VOLUNTEER... WHETHER THEY ARE PAID OR NOT. EVERY ONE OF THEM ARE WHERE THEY EITHER DECIDED TO BE... OR THEY
PLACED THEMSELVES INTO A POSITION IN LIFE WHERE SOMEONE ELSE IS
GIVEN THE RIGHT TO DECIDE FOR THEM WHERE THEY WILL BE AND WHAT THEY
MUST DO. WITHOUT SUCH PEOPLE THIS WORLD WOULD NOT BE... NOT AS WE
KNOW IT NOW.

TO EACH PEACE KEEPER WHO READS THIS... YOU ARE AMAZING AND
MARVELOUS PEOPLE. I HAVE WALKED WITH YOU AND AMONG YOU FOR OVER
TWO THIRDS OF MY LIFE... AND I LOVE YOU FOR WHO YOU ARE AND FOR WHAT
YOU DO. BECAUSE OF YOU MY FAMILY AND I HAVE HAD A LIFE. WHEN
NECESSARY FOR SOME SITUATIONS ONE OR MORE OF YOU WERE ALWAYS
THERE FOR ME, MY FAMILY, THE SITUATION AND THE NEED. FROM MY VERY EARLIEST EXPERIENCE WITH YOU UNTIL THIS VERY MOMENT ONE OR MORE OF YOU HAVE BEEN INFLUENCING SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MOMENTS OF
MY LIFE.

MOMENT... THANK YOU...ETERNALLY THANK YOU.
